When technology by the day is dynamic and continuously being envisioned for a smarter and better world, more and more sophisticated tech genius brains are coming up with efficient ways by going macro in speed, wireless in coverage and definitely going micro in sizes and shapes. This is why you need to get refresher knowhow in order to keep yourself updated on every phase.
Welcome to the newest invention in town the world of LI-FI. There is a lot to learn about Li-Fi, which will be able to answer the three critical questions as follows:
- What is the most tangible definition of Li-Fi?
- How does Li-Fi work for you as opposed to Wireless Fidelity?
- Do we have any shortcomings downgrading the Li-Fi Technology?
- What about security?
- What does the cost and future hold for all of us with the advent of Li-Fi?
Li-Fi technology otherwise known as Light Fidelity is a high speed wireless communication system which utilizes visible light diodes called LED-Light Emitting Diodes that eventually enables rapid internet data transfer at a capacity of up to two hundred and twenty four (224) gigabits every second.
The terminology Li-Fi was used for the first time during its inception by Harald Haas – a professor at the Edinburgh University who set up and steered the world class research on electronic data transmission on LED.
According to the pioneer inventors of Li-Fi technology, it boasts a rapid speed capacity of up to a hundred (100) times faster compared to the current Wireless Fidelity.
HOW DOES LI-FI WORK FOR YOU AS OPPOSED TO WIRELESS FIDELITY?
Traditionally, basing the fact on similarity, both Wi-Fi and Li-Fi are the same the fact being that the data transmission is done electromagnetically.
However, the Wi-Fi routers are founded on radio signals on the other hand, huge amount of internet data is transferable to and from on Li-Fi by using the light LED emissions.
In Li-Fi technology, the receipt and transmission of signals of light depends on LED controlled gargets. The underlying composition and processes herein are based on electronic photo detector that receives, converts into transmittable packs and streams them to the next destination at the highest speed.
With the known qualities of LED light bulbs, as semiconductors, the control over dimming of these bulbs down and upwards is pretty obvious factoring in the constant feeding in of the electronic inflow-outflow of currents rendering light visibility by the eye.
After engaging any LED enabled light bulb with the capacity to process light signals, it causes that light to be embedded in the beam hence rapidly sending internet data to an electronic light detector called Photo-diode
The rapid dimming of the bulb hereby converted by the LED receiver results into electrical signals which are then bundled into transferrable binary data inform of video, audio or web formats.
HOW DOES Li-Fi WORK IN THE DARK?
Li-Fi technology does not work in the dark. And there is a specific threshold from the receiver beyond which Li-Fi does not work. However, Li-Fi can still perform in dim lit rooms where light illumination percentages is between 10 and 90. The normal minimum standards of lighting level when reading is approximately 400 lux but in the case of dimly lit rooms, Li-Fi is able to provide communication from as low as 60 lux.
Where lighting problem persist other different data Transmission Avenue can easily be exploited. In the case of infra-red which is a success today, this can be used to detect the invisible light spectrum.
The uniqueness of this technology is that, Li-Fi does not depend on line of sight instead it is highly dependent on the strength and quality of the signal. The quality of signal transmitted can be defined by desired ratio as a proportion of both noise experienced and data interference.
The component of Li-Fi security should be one of the most secure systems given the fact that Li-Fi wireless technology is dependent on LED. To bar any intruders from your locality, the wireless data space of the receiver can be locked in a light constrainer thereby shutting down any access by unwarranted users.
On the other hand, we currently have existing authentication and encryption procedures that are highly secure besides all other internet security protocols.
THE COST IMLICATIONS IN FUTURE
In future, all mobile devices, tablets, handsets, laptops and other communication gargets will have inbuilt Li-Fi integration thereby making the cost of Li-Fi installation and operation lower than all the current wireless options.
